There’s no such thing as magic - she assured me all the time.
But then - as I lay there in the cool damp morning grass….
And as the sun rose the color of fire…
And as these magical sprites opened their arms and danced and sang…
I wondered - maybe for the first time - if there might be a different ending….
a different dance and different song…
to those promises that once were made me.
Color Study One
It’s come to that time of year…
To returning my practice to the indoors.
The days are - everyday - a few minutes shorter than the day before.
The light is - everyday - a little bit less than it was.
I’m reminded of the teaching:
Begin where I am. Use whatever simple tools I might have on hand.
And so - I’m experimenting with paper….with color…with sculpting abstraction.
Who knows if this’ll be it….or where it might lead.
Grateful
Grateful.
For this color….for that moment of light…for nature’s ever-changing beauty.
Grateful.
For friends who hold my hands….who lift me up…who ground me.
Grateful.
For family….for children…for all the miraculous gifts that grandmothering bring.
