Each and every time - they take me by surprise. A single one here...and a patch of them there....a whole garden-full of color on the other side.
In so many ways - ordinary. In more ways - expected. They seem to show up just like this as one of spring's most natural and welcome wonders.
And - I thought - this is the gift of beginning each day anew. It's the prize that comes with seeing each day thru fresh eyes.
So then - why the surprise?
Some days - it's a question. Others - a quiet whisper. And still others - it's the tiniest hint of first color.
It's a voice...a sign...a promise.
Some days- it shows itself loudly and proudly. Others - it begs to be found out.
Today - I lay myself down on my belly...parted the winter grasses...and discovered just this.
A voice...a sign...a promise.
Hope.
And there - it was.
Across the grey-green grass and oh-so-very-far away - my first spotting of nature's color. A one small dot in winter's eternally color-less landscape. So color-full.
A seed of hope.
A reminder - that spring arrives just as it always done. Just in time. Today.
