Santosha

January 1, 2017 Marcie Scudder

I wondered what it is - that draws me to this scene...this moment...this particular image.

Simplicity.
Silence.
Space.

A clean white palette.
A blank page.
A fresh new start.

One year ending...and another one beginning.
A letting go.
A releasing.
A not knowing.

Is it an inhale...or an exhale. Is there a difference?

To the left - the future awaits.
To the right - rests the past.

I've been quiet.....pensive....reflective.
Just walking. Just thinking. Just feeling my way.
One foot in front of another.
My heart spins. My head follows.

Looking forward...and looking back.

I'm not wanting to choose a word that declares my new year's intention.
I'm resisting committing to a direction...or any sort of plan.
I'm here - that's all.
Good enough.

In sanskrit - they call it 'santosha'.
In my own native tongue - there's no better word.

Wishing for nothing more and nothing other.
Observing the dance of two trees joined together.
Holding magical space.
Bowing to beauty and grace...and the universe's great grand plan.

Acceptance.
Gratitude.
It's a gift - all of it.

Just is.
