Sweet October.
Burnt umber and orange and burgundy red....set on a base of gentlest green. And gold. And a rusted tin roof.
And aging wood that carries their winter place of refuge.
They didn't even bother to lift their heads. To look. To see. To take in all of the grandeur and majesty. Focused on the task-at-hand.
They saw no reward in raising their eyes to the ever-changing surrounds of color.
I wondered...as I wandered...as I so often do.
So infinitely small. So seemingly unimportant. They were nothing more than color-less dots in a universe of jewels.
I thought about how quickly it passes. This season.
The summer landscape that was emerald green....transformed itself into brilliant reds and bright yellow-golds.
It's only now...as the color fades and changes once again - that the true gems are showing.
Precious and priceless. Nature's true gems. There is nothing more beautiful.
Sweet October.
